- Once upon a time, the very first bruschetta was made by using only olive oil and bread. It is not very suprising that the bruschetta in Tuscany region still is called ‘fettunta’, which means ‘oily slice’. This was the classical and simplest way of making the best bruschetta for centuries.
- During the 16th century, a new and fresh ingredient arrived from the newly discovered continent, America. This bright red and fruity ingredient was, of course, the tomato. It undoubtedly improved both the appearance and the taste of this classic Italian recipe.

Preparing the Topping
- Dice the tomatoes. Place the diced tomato pieces in a deep bowl.
- Add olive oil, grated garlic, oregano, sliced basil leaves, balsamic vinegar(optional), salt and pepper. Mix them with the tomatoes thoroughly. Making the Bruschetta
- Preheat the oven at 200℃ (400℉) with the fan mode on.
- Place the bread slices on an oven tray which is covered with a sheet of baking paper.
- With the help of an egg brush, spread the olive oil on both sides of the slices.
- Bake the slices for 7-10 minutes until they turn golden (Make sure to check on them frequently to avoid over baking).
- When they are baked, place them on the counter to cool down.
- Rub the tops of the bread slices with the halved garlic cloves.
- Spoon and distribute the tomato mixture on top of the slices just before you serve them.
